About This Spot

Stepping into Sun Ming Kee Restaurant, you’re immediately wrapped in the gentle buzz of a neighborhood favorite – a lively yet organized pulse that beats steadily through the twin shoplots it calls home. The clatter of plates, the soft murmur of conversation, and the occasional friendly greeting from staff create an atmosphere that feels familiar, like a cherished weekend ritual rather than a rushed meal. The wait to place your order is part of the rhythm here, a shared cadence among locals who know that the reward on the other side – a table piled with rich, smoky roast meats and comforting sides – makes every minute worthwhile.

The pace is unhurried but purposeful; while the space is modest and the décor leans toward practical more than polished, this is a place where the true craftsmanship shines through the kitchen’s offerings. There’s an unassuming warmth in how dishes arrive, each carrying layers of history and familial touch in their flavours. The roasted duck and char siew entice with their glossy, caramelised edges, promising a perfect balance of fat and meat that has earned the quiet devotion of regulars. Alongside them, humble companions like salted vegetables and freshly made yong tau foo speak of thoughtful balance — bright, textured, and just a little bit nostalgic.

The experience here is one for those who find comfort and joy in familiar flavors carried through time, prepared with subtle care rather than fanfare. While spots for parking can be a test of patience and the interior whispers of its long days and many stories, these are small notes in a day marked by communal appreciation. This is a place where the light-hearted clatter of chopsticks meets the slow-release satisfaction of a deeply satisfying meal. Sun Ming Kee feels like a quiet celebration of Chinese roast traditions, embraced by a community that returns as much for the food as for the shared moments around the table.

Is famous famous for unknown reason. It taste very good for CharSiu, SiuYork. Others are normal. Very pricey. But still, people are queueing like there's no tomorrow. Overall, good experience.

We arrived there on Saturday, Jul 13 2025 around noon. Parking is by the roadside but securing a bay is challenging. Be prepared to park much further or around the residential areas. The restaurant occupies 2 shoplots. To secure a table, have to order and pay for food first. However, it is often crowded so have to queue before you can reach the order counter. It is generally quite clean. Food came fast and the serving staff was responsive and efficient. Their signature roast meat eg char siew, siew yoke and roast duck has the right texture, still juicy and chewable. Asam vegetables wasn't disappointing as a favourite order dish too. Yong tau foo of 3 pcs per set was quite flat in taste. The 3 different double boiled soups have the full taste of its ingredients. Our drinks of lime and sour plum juice was rather sweet. The bill for 5 paxs came to RM148.50 which was competitive.

We ordered roasted duck, char siew, siew cheong and yong tau fu. The char siew and yong tau fu stood out the most. The char siew was perfect, half fat, half meat, with a hint of BBQ caramel sauce. Not too fatty, not dry, everything was spot on. The yong tau fu was juicy, and you could taste the salted fish in the meat. Total came to RM74 for all the dishes. Recommended to visit before lunch hour to avoid the crowd.

One of the best spots in town for a satisfying roast meat meal. The roasted duck, crispy pork, and char siew are consistently flavorful and well-prepared. Each bite is rich, tender, and full of smoky goodness. Don’t miss out on the salted vegetables - perfectly seasoned with a balance of tang and saltiness, they complement the meats beautifully and are absolutely irresistible. Their coffee with grass jelly is my favourite. Friendly staffs, systematic ordering arrangement and prompt service.
